Today's pharmaceutical supply chain demands

Every product in the system is mapped to its VTM → VMP → AMP → AMPP hierarchy using the NHS dm+d / Snomed CT catalogue. This eliminates free-text medicine naming, prevents substitution errors and ensures every record uses a clinically recognised, legally defensible drug identity.

At goods-in and every subsequent scan, the GS1 / GTIN-14 barcode on the medicine pack is validated against the live dm+d AMPP dataset. Discontinued AMPPs, unrecognised GTINs and pack-size mismatches are blocked and escalated — preventing unsafe or unlicensed stock from entering the inventory.

First Expiry First Out (FEFO) is enforced automatically at the picking stage. Pickers are guided to the correct batch and location; the system will not allow a longer-dated batch to be picked while a shorter-dated one is available. Near-expiry alerts and quarantine flags ensure short-dated stock is reviewed before dispatch.

Controlled drugs require dual-authorisation for receipt, dispensing and disposal. Cold-chain products are assigned to monitored temperature zones; any breach or movement outside the chain is logged and alerted. Full CD register entries are generated automatically from system transactions.

The NHSBSA publishes an updated dm+d dataset every week. Our platform automatically ingests the latest release and highlights any AMPPs that have been added, modified or discontinued that affect your current stock or open orders — keeping your medicine catalogue perpetually accurate without manual effort.
